Confirmation is a very joyful occasion for our Parish each year. Often it is conferred by a Bishop and is usually celebrated close to Pentecost. Confirmation strengthens the commitment to Christ made at Baptism, in which the child becomes a full Christian. It gives the young adult courage and strength to witness Christ in the world.

Confirmation preparation takes place mostly in school and a member of the parish team meets regularly with the children in our local parish schools who are preparing for Confirmation. A Ceremony of Enrolment is organised early in the school year for all those who request to be confirmed. Children are encouraged to take on a specific job or community service in consultation with their parents as part of their preparation. The children are given an opportunity to have a day retreat, usually in a retreat Centre, as Confirmation day approaches. In the week before Confirmation we celebrate a SERVICE OF LIGHT where the parents symbolically pass on the light of faith to their child who is about to be confirmed.

Since COVID 19 the children are being invited to celebrate in a different way. For the past couple of years they were invited to take part at a monthly mass to take part in the normal weekend celebration.

“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and even to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1.8.
