We have a number of important celebrations during the week.
Tue 1st St Brigid’s Day. She, with St. Patrick and St. Colmcille is our patron saint of Ireland. One tradition associated with Brigid is “St. Brigid’s Cross”, a cross woven from rushes.
Wed 2nd: Presentation of the Lord. Celebrated 40 days after Christmas. In some churches this is the day that the crib is taken down. Candles are blessed this day and are kept in people’s homes as a sign of Christ ‘the light of the world’ and an expression of faith. Candles can be purchased in the church shop.
Thurs 3rd: St. Blaise. Traditionally we have the blessing of throats with candles blessed from ‘Candlemas Day’ (2nd Feb). We won’t have the individual blessing this year though a special blessing will take place during Mass.
Fri 4th: First Friday of the month when we remember our beloved dead. (Visits to our sick & house bound are associated with today as well).
